Is Russia A Threat?

Russia is hardly an appropriate partner for the EU, becoming, not a democracy as was still hoped for until recently, but a totalitarian dictatorship where 300 journalists have been murdered and political opponents are imprisoned and tortured. As a result the hoped for 'partner' is becoming something less than ideal. The question then arises - is Russia becoming a threat?
