We are, sadly, used to seeing intrepid reporters on TV recording the activities of some dictator putting down demonstrations by those who would remove such tyrants from office. Often the most dramatic pictures are of riot police seizing megaphones from the crowd, dramatic because this is a powerful image of what is really going on: the suppression of free speech.
